Nederburg will mark Women’s Month on August 28 with a selection of landmark works by women composers performed by the St Cecilia Piano Trio.

Named in honour of the patron saint of music, the St Cecilia ensemble comprises violinist Anouk Espi, cellist Cheryl de Havilland and pianist Tertia Visser-Downie. All well-established soloists, the musicians joined forces to explore the chamber music genre and present interesting programmes of outstanding music.

The Nederburg recital will feature works by Clara Schumann, Cecile Chaminade, Amy Beach and Fanny Mendelssohn.

“There have been some magnificent works composed by women,” explains Visser-Downie. “We have compiled a programme featuring two major piano trios, one written by Schumann and the other by Mendelssohn, as well as smaller works by other outstanding women composers.

“We are looking forward to performing beautiful music in such a gorgeous setting. The audience can expect a journey on some less well-travelled musical paths, giving several highly talented composers the opportunity to have their musical voices heard,” she added.

The St Cecilia Trio’s concert takes place in the Manor House recital room at 17h00. Tickets are R150, which includes a welcoming drink and delicious light supper snacks served with fine Nederburg wines following the recital.
