2008 Naledi Theatre Awards - nominees announced

Naledi executive director Dawn Lindberg promises a glitzy award ceremony on Sunday, April 19, at the South African State Theatre in Pretoria, when top stage celebrities will present awards in 21 categories.

Entertainment will feature highlights from The Magic Flute, Beauty and the Beast, Chess, Umoja and others, also the internationally acclaimed African Children`s Choir.

The nominations are:

1/ Best New South African Play Produced
Biko Where the Soul Resides - Produced State Theatre. Written and directed by Martin Koboekae
Freak Country - Produced by Daphne Kuhn, directed by Charmaine Weir-Smith. Written by Paul Slabolepszy Karoo Moose - Produced by Baxter Theatre Centre in association with ABSA and Aardklop. Presented by the Market Theatre. Directed by Lara Foot Newton.
Silent Voice - Produced South African State Theatre and Inkanya Productions. Written and Directed by Aubrey Sekhabi.
Ten Bush - Produced by The Market Theatre. Directed by Mncedisi Shabangu. Written by Craig Higginson and Mncedisi Shabangu.
